Storytime
This past week I have done some research about the history and fables of Cape Town. The stories will involve some of my newly created characters and their adventures around the city. I would like the stories to have some interresting link with the cape, I think this will make them appeal to tourists as well as locals. The three first drafts are the following: the legend of van Hunks and the Devil smoking on the mountain, the story of heroic Wolraad Woltemade and his horse who saved shipwrecked passengers near the mouth of the Salt River and the legend of the “Flying Dutchman”.
Now it is time to do a costing on the colouring-in books and other activities I want to put in my packages. Also – I am looking for a good storyteller who can interpret the basic stories that I have written an turn them int nicely flowing or rhyming prose. Please contact me if you have any ideas.

First story, first draft
I am a picture drawer, not a story writer, but I gave it a go anyway!
Two of my characters, Blikkies and Baby (feature picture), are going on their first adventure, an excursion in the cable car up the mountain.
I decided to start with the well-known legend of captain van Hunks and the devil smoking up a cloud over Table Mountain. I interwove this legend with Blikkies’ excursion. I have to have my story edited and checked before I plan the picture book layout and illustrations.
It will be A5 and it will be the central part of my first activity kit. Some of the pages will be printed in full colour and some just with black outlines – to be coloured in.
I will add in a few other activities into the package, like a “dot-to-dot”, a maze or a “spot the difference”, there will also be a cut-and-fold colouring-in sheet.
Its a start!
