paintings in progress

Monday, 03 February 2014 by Janette Wright

I have been painting away, insipred by photos and sketches I have made in and of Lesotho. My fan has to work overtime to stir the hot air this summer! I am painting with oil on canvas, on a smaller scale than my last paintings. I can market them at a better price and I think smaller things are more practical for today’s homes. The watercolours below are requests from some of the staff at the Semonkong Lodge. Victor wants a painting of himself and Elizabeth wants a painting of her house! Lets hope they come out well.

Hello 2014

Tuesday, 07 January 2014 by Janette Wright

Firstly, I wish you all a blessed 2014!

I have been blessed to have visited one of the most beautiful places in the mountain kingdom of Lesotho a few times. One of the highlights while being there is to venture out and do some “plein air” drawing and painting. The people and especially the children are very curious and surround me while I am sitting near their homes drawing. They love to test their english, “how are you” is one of the first questions, followed by “I am fine, how are you?”.

Here are four little watercolour and pencil paintings that I think came out quite well.

Five oil paintings finished and for sale!

Thursday, 21 November 2013 by Janette Wright

I have been painting away steadily throughout the year whenever I had time, and at last five paintings are finished and looking for new loving homes.

These are all oil paintings on canvas. The colours are vibrant and red features prominently. I do like the colour red, it expresses the heat and brightness of the Namibian desert sun. I found the abandoned houses at Kolmanskop and the vintage cars at Solitaire irresistible and it was brilliant to explore the sense of space, the colours and the shapes further in my paintings.

I hope you enjoy them!
