Five oil paintings finished and for sale!

Thursday, 21 November 2013 by Janette Wright

I have been painting away steadily throughout the year whenever I had time, and at last five paintings are finished and looking for new loving homes.

These are all oil paintings on canvas. The colours are vibrant and red features prominently. I do like the colour red, it expresses the heat and brightness of the Namibian desert sun. I found the abandoned houses at Kolmanskop and the vintage cars at Solitaire irresistible and it was brilliant to explore the sense of space, the colours and the shapes further in my paintings.

I hope you enjoy them!

Whats been happening?

Thursday, 24 October 2013 by Janette Wright

It seems that summer has arrived at last, heralded by the Cape Doctor.

I am presenting another art workshop this Saturday, 26 October. The theme is “Eastern Magic”. We will be painting with ink and watercolour on paper.

Now, about my own work: the featured image is of one of my finished oil paintings on canvas. As inspiration I am using photos from a road trip we did to Namibia.

Here are a few more, some finished, a few still in progress.

I hope you like them!

painting continued

Saturday, 29 June 2013 by Janette Wright

I am continuing with my oil paintings. Its interresting to note that starting the pictures is the easy bit, its the finetuning and finishing thats the hard part! I have 8 paintings on the go at the moment .

I am a bit unsure af the themes, but will finish all the paintings (and start some more) and see where the process takes me. Six of them feature old cars that I photographed while on a roadtrip in Namibia a few years ago. The other two feature abandoned houses at Kolmanskop near Luderitz in the barren desert surroundings. My plan is to organise an exhibition. I will need to find a gallery that likes my stuff, we will cross that bridge when we get there!

Here are a few pictures of the paintings in progress.

painting away

Wednesday, 12 June 2013 by Janette Wright

I have made an energetic start on my paintings. These are quite different from my illustrations of characters.

As a theme, I am focussing on a road trip we did to Namibia a few years ago.

I have many photos of empty sand-blown houses at Colmanskoppe and of abandoned cars and trucks. Because its so dry there, the detail preserved is amazing. They are all oil paint on canvas.

My goal is to have an exhibition and sell them if anyone wants to buy them! I will be looking for a venue to have the exhibition in the next few months.

Ps. these paintings are all works in progress … ie far from finished …
