I have been attending workshops a few times a week at Bright Space Studio (Woodstock) during the past month. I learnt a new and interresting meditative excersise, its purpose is slow your mind down and focus before jumping straight into painting.
Its quite simple, listen to slow, repetitive and calm music and make the same mark (everyone has their own kind of mark, mine happens to be a dash) over and over until you fill the page. You can use any medium, just remember that it is not about making a picture, but simply about making the same mark over and over. I applied this technique in some pastel drawings that I was stuck with. I simply started making repetitive marks over the whole page, I repeated the process with other colours to on the same drawing until I had a page covered with densely packed marks. Someone remarked that it looked like a tapestry. Below are some pictures of my “meditative” experiments.
Baie mooi Janette!
Dankie! Weet nie waar dit heen gaan nie, maar ons hou maar aan probeer!
